GetSet Privacy Policy

Overview

GetSet is a personal hobby iOS app for collecting Canberra's real-world geographic items — bunker bus shelters (1970s Clem Cummings round concrete design), Canberra and Bush trig stations, Classic Canberra, embassies, and post boxes. This policy describes how your data is handled.

What We Do Not Do

• No user accounts. GetSet works offline and never requires you to sign in or create an account.
• No analytics or tracking. GetSet does not use analytics services, trackers, or advertising networks.
• No ads. GetSet is ad-free.

On-Device Storage

Your collection progress stays entirely on your iPhone:

• Visit history. Every check-in you make is stored locally in the app's database (SwiftData).
• Progress files. Earned badges and collection state are saved in portable .mygt files in the app's Documents folder, readable by backup and export tools.
• Item details. Set metadata (item positions, names, attributes) are stored locally and updated only when you explicitly install or update a collection set.

Location Data

Location is used on your device, and leaves it only inside a report you choose to send:

• When you check in to an item, GetSet uses your precise GPS location to verify you are within range.
• The map displays your location and items near you.
• Your location is never transmitted to any server or service automatically. The only time a location leaves your phone is when you send a data-correction report that includes it (see below).

Data Corrections (Reports)

You can report problems with the data — "this shelter moved", "this item is gone", "the location is wrong", or wrong attribute values. When you choose to file a report:

• Optional. Reporting is not required to use GetSet.
• Your choice. You must explicitly send a report; it never happens in the background.
• What is sent. Your report: any message you write, the set and item concerned, the time you created it, the app version, and, where relevant, a proposed position and the GPS fix you were at when you filed it. It is sent to a Cloudflare Worker that stores it.
• No identity stored. The server records only the day it received the report (YYYY-MM-DD). It does not read or store your IP address, device ID, email or name, unless you opt in to credit (see below). Anything you type into the message is stored as written, so please don't put personal details in it.
• Cloudflare's network. Cloudflare's servers necessarily see your IP address in order to route your request, as they do for any website. This is governed by Cloudflare's own privacy policy. The GetSet report endpoint does not read or store the IP address.
• Fallback: email from your own mail app. If the report cannot be sent directly, or you choose email, the app opens your mail client with the report attached. Email is not anonymous: the maintainer sees your email address, and your email provider handles the message under its own policy. To keep your address private, send from an alias such as Apple's Hide My Email.

Credit for Corrections (Opt-In)

If you want credit for a correction when it ships in a new version:

• Toggle "Credit me as" in GetSet Settings and enter a name.
• When you file a report, this name is included in the submission.
• If your report is accepted, your name (only) may appear in the set's credits.
• No location, item IDs, or other identifying information is attached to your name.

Hidden-Location (Treasure Hunt) Sets

Some collection sets hide where uncollected items are. GetSet does not reveal the position of an item you have not found, including in the reporting screens.

Deleting Your Data

On your device: Delete GetSet from your iPhone. All local data is removed immediately.

Reports you have sent: Reports submitted to the GetSet endpoint are stored indefinitely unless you request deletion. To request deletion of a report, contact the GetSet maintainer with a description of what you reported and roughly when. Reports are anonymous, so I can only find yours by its content. Note: reports submitted via email from your own mail app are subject to your email provider's policy, not GetSet's.

This privacy policy may change. Material changes will be noted with the effective date at the top of this page.
